Modern Design

Modern design is a design philosophy that emerged in the early 20th century, foregrounding functionality, simplicity and unornamented geometric forms, and grounded in the principle that "form follows function." The Bauhaus school played a pioneering role in systematically teaching and disseminating this approach in architecture, furniture and industrial design.
