Volcanic Tuff

Volcanic tuff is a porous, soft sedimentary rock formed when ash, pumice and rock fragments ejected during a volcanic eruption compact and harden over time. Because it is far easier to carve than other rocks, it has allowed underground cities and dwellings to be hewn out for centuries in regions such as Cappadocia.
